英語教育
TOEICの導入
香川大学医学部では、医療に携わる人材の国際化を図ることを目的として平成１１年度から英語教育にTOEICを活用しています。
医学科の１年次生にIPテストと公開テスト（SP）を受験することを必須としています。これによって、英語の成績判定やTOEICのスコアを参照する仮認定制度などを導入し、グループによる少人数教育やカリキュラム等の教育環境を整え指導してきた結果、学生の総合能力は格段に向上し、学生意識にも向上が見られ、TOEICスコアの伸びに成果となって表れています。
また、留学などの特別な目標を持っている学生に対して次の段階としてTOEFLの導入なども検討されています。
医学英語I Medical English I
[ 授業の概要 ]
This course is based on the principle of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning). Through studying the content of human biology, students will gain valuable skills in cognition, communication, and cultural understanding.
[ 授業の目的 ]
This course aims to boost students' knowledge of basic medical English and help students develop thinking and English communication skills necessary for medical doctors in Japan. Students should become enabled to use English from their own power without relying on devices for assistance.
[ 到達目標 ]
Through this course, students will become enabled to perform the following:
- Understand and use basic medical English vocabulary, abbreviations, and expressions;
- Improve their English reading speed;
- Explain basic concepts in medicine and biology using easy-to-understand English;
- Improve their paraphrasing and summarizing skills in both speech and writing;
- Present and defend their opinions about topics in biology and medicine.
医学英語II Medical English II
[ 授業の概要 ]
This course will provide students with basic clinical English skills necessary for medical doctors in Japan.
[ 授業の目的 ]
The purpose of this course is to prepare students for the English demands of medical doctors in Japan. Following the Minimum Requirements established by the Japan Society of Medical English Education, students will gain practice in the four essential skills needed by medical doctors in Japan: Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, and Communication.
'[ 到達目標 ]
Through this course, students will become enabled to perform the following:
- Understand and use medical English vocabulary, abbreviations, and expressions;
- Explain medical conditions, instruments, and procedures using easy-to-understand language;
- Ask about a patient's symptoms and history of illness in English;
- Use communication techniques (e.g., clarification and facilitation) and a variety of question types (e.g., open and closed) to speak English fluently and naturally.
